For Immediate Release
New Horizon Communities and South Sound Solar Announce Shelton Veterans Village Solar Project Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.

What: Shelton Veterans Village Solar Project Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
When: Monday October 30th, 11am-12pm
Where: Shelton Veterans Village, 2471 North 13th Street Shelton, WA 98584

New Horizon Communities and South Sound Solar are inviting everyone to a special ribbon cutting ceremony marking the completion of the Shelton Veterans Village Solar Project. Construction of the solar array on Shelton Veterans Village’s 30 tiny homes and community center was completed in September of this year. Stop by at 11am on Wednesday, October 30th for this ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the beginning of the project going online! A light reception will take place afterwards.

As an integral community resource for the unhoused in Mason County, Shelton Veterans Village is an ideal location for hosting solar. The Shelton Veterans Village has a total of 156 solar panels (102 on the tiny homes and 54 on the community center). South Sound Solar designed and installed the 61.5 kW Solar System.

“We are now solar at all three of our tiny home villages! We are grateful to have the opportunity to invest in our community and lower our carbon footprint. We couldn’t have done it without our incredible partners who believe in our programs and helped make this happen”, stated New Horizon Communities Associate Director Jaycie Osterberg-Brown.

The installation will reduce the village’s energy bill, saving more than $165,000 over the next thirty years. Savings from the solar energy will directly benefit village residents by making more resources available for mental health programs and services. Project funding came from the low-income community solar incentive program at Washington State University Energy Extension.
