June Updates

June - Celebrating
Pride Month, Black Music Month, and Juneteenth

June is LGBTQIA+* Pride month. We are proud that many members of our villages, staff, board, volunteers, and donors represent this community. Quixote Communities stands in support and solidarity of our LGBTQIA+ community.

*LGBTQIA+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexuality, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual, and the + stands to be inclusive of all people who identify as queer or anything other than heterosexual.

Join us in learning more about how to destigmatize, provide support and promote awareness through the resources from Mental Health America.

June is also Black Music Month, we invite you to visit The National Museum of African American History & Culture to enjoy some musical history.

June is also a time when we celebrate Juneteenth, a time that symbolizes the end of slavery. Learn more about Juneteenth here.

In the Community

Colleen Carmichael, our Executive Director has been out and about, sharing about our work, and helping to create a better understanding of how we can collectively make homelessness rare, brief, and one-time.

Dick Pust invited Colleen to join him at the KXXO studio for a Community Podcast interview. You can check out the podcast here.

Together we are creating a safer community. A path to stability. A better quality of life.

On June 7th The Great Bend Chorale had a beautiful performance, featuring the voices of local veterans. One of our very own Shelton Veterans Village residents performed!
We hope you'll enjoy their rendition of Thompson "Alleluia".

A Special Thank You to the Pierce County Arts Commission for their grant support of this project.

Great Bend Chorale Choir performance at Saint David of Wales Episcopal Church.
Our Executive Director Colleen Carmichael attended the concert with Becky Sayan, Board President of Turning Pointe Survivor Advocacy Center.
